MADISON- Jean Yvonne Petersen (Engebretson), age 83, passed away peacefully on Dec. 17, 2023. She was born Jan. 30, 1940, in Browntown, Wis. She was elected for the 1957 Dairyland Queen in Browntown, which can be viewed at the Browntown Muesuem.
Widowed after 48 years with Harland “Pistol Pete” Petersen. She was a proud team-driver with her husband and their 18-wheeler on the open road for many years. Anyone she met became good friends with her very quickly.
In her earlier years, Jean was on various dart and pool leagues around Madison. She loved singing karaoke, dancing, sitting by the pool, and holidays and picnics with family. She made good friends quickly wherever she went. Jean was a proud stage 4 lymphoma cancer survivor.
She was preceded in death by her husband Pete; her daughter, Kathy; parents, Arthur and Margaret (Hansen) Engebretson; sisters and brothers, Janice, Margie, Sonja, Gerald “Whitey”, Sue, Carla “Chris”, Ronald and Cynthia.
Jean is survived by six children, Rick Phillips, Nate (Cindy) Phillips, Keith Phillips, Pam (Tim) Keyes, Connie Petersen and Sheila Petersen. The village created 19 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, with many more to come.
A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at VFW POST #8483, 5737 County Highway CV, Madison. Food and band to enjoy.
