MADISON - Jane Marie Marita, age 51, of Madison, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017. She was born on May 27, 1965, to John and Mary (Blewett) Marita. She grew up in Mequon, Wis., and graduated from Homestead High School in 1983. Jane then moved to Madison where she made her home earning her bachelors, masters and ultimately her doctorate in Forestry in 2001 from UW-Madison. Jane worked at the USDA Forage Center as a Plant Molecular Geneticist starting in 2001. She published numerous research works and in 2014, Jane was awarded the Certificate of Merit from the USDA for exceptional support of her research program and assistance to others. Jane was also a strong supporter of her community and various charities, even establishing monthly brat cookouts benefiting Feds Feed Families and the local food shelf. Janes travels took her far and near, from Asia to Lake 3 in Mellen, Wis. She was a champion of women's equality and lived her life accordingly. Jane was preceded in death by her mother, Mary; and survived by her father, John; her brothers, John (Lisa), James (Lori), Greg (Chris), and David (Anita); her sister, Peg; and nieces and nephews, Justin, Michael, Luke, Caleb, Megan, Logan, Ryan, John, Quinn, and Drew; as well as many lively friends. Jane excelled at generosity, love, and support for her friends and family, both of which she defined broadly. A Celebration of Janes Life will be held at GREAT DANE PUB & BREWING CO. (Eastside), 876 Jupiter Dr., Madison on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 from noon to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UW Arboretum or the Fritz Food Pantry at Goodman Community Center.
