Jan A. Odegaard

MADISON Jan A. Odegaard, age 64, passed away on Feb. 8, 2015, at home in Madison under the care of Agrace HospiceCare, after a year battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 17, 1950, in Minneapolis, to Ralph Jack and Donna (Brantner) Edwards. The family moved to Madison in 1967. Jan married Bill V. Odegaard of Madison on Dec. 4, 1971, and they lived in Colorado and Germany until the end of Bills service in the U.S. Army. Jan worked for years to become a genealogist and a collector. She volunteered for various organizations. Hired by the Wisconsin State Historical Museum, she worked in public programming and museum education, becoming a researcher, historian and a lecturer, specializing in life, social customs, and death in the Victorian era, as well as exploring and researching old cemeteries and gravestone symbolism. Jan is survived by her husband Bill; mother, Donna Edwards; brothers, Dave (Cynthia) Edwards and Jim (Cheri) Edwards; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. At her request, no funeral or memorial is planned. Jans family wishes to thank the staff of Agrace HospiceCare for their exceptional care.
