James W. Burhans, age 90, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 10th in Hospice at Alden Estates in Jefferson. He was born January 28, 1924 in Elkhorn, WI. He married Joyce Schumacher on December 9, 1949 and had 64 years together. He served in the Army during World War II. He farmed most of his life and made many friends playing cards at their apartment and senior center. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, five children, Sandra (Robert), Thomas (Linda, deceased), Patricia (Jack), Steven (Connie) and Edward. He is further survived by two sisters, Marilyn Williams (Richard, deceased) and Gloria (Gary) Justham, seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by two sisters, 3 brothers-in-law and a daughter-in-law. The family expresses their gratitude to the staffs of Agrace Hospice and Alden Estates for their care. Visitation will be held at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church on Friday, May 16 from 11:00 to 12:00, followed by a memorial service at 12:00. Burial will be private
