MADISON – James P. Savitski, age 86 of Madison, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011 after losing his battle with cancer. He was born on July 6, 1925 in Marquette, Mich., the son of Eadith and Steven Savitski. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 – 1946. He resided in Marquette, Mich until he moved to Madison in 1960. He married Darlene Gray on October 26, 1970. Jim loved making cookies and was the best at making pastys and pizza. He also enjoyed reading and learning trivia facts, football, baseball, going to baseball games, going on casino trips and sitting in the sun. His biggest passion was stamp collecting. Jim is survived by his sister, Gloria Maki, of Michigan; two daughters, Eadith (Dave) Aschliman and Laura (Mike) Chapman, all of Michigan; eight stepchildren, Larry (Linda) Gray, of Madison, Sue Anderson, of DeForest, Jeanne Carlson, of Madison, Dave (Kathy) Gray of Oxford, Nancy (Mike) Klinkner of McFarland, Diane (Mark) McCann, of Madison, Linda (Rick) Vanderwegen, of Madison and Tina (David) Quale of Dane; 22 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Darlene Savitski; a grandchild, Christopher Bennett; his four brothers, Al, Cliff, Cubby, and Midge; and two sisters, Virginia Yshinsky and Genevieve Savitski. Private family services will be held with inurnment in the family plot in Marquette, Mich. He will be dearly missed by his family and good friend, Judy.
