JANESVILLE - James J. "Jamesie" Locast, age 89, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2011 at St. Marys Hospital in Madison. He was born April 23, 1922 in Janesville, the son of James N. and Mary (Cochrane) Locast. He attended Janesville Schools. He was a member of the CC Camp in the late 1930's. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, but was dismissed from all military service for medical reasons. He worked for a period of time in the shipyards in California during World War II. He was also employed at Rock River Woolen Mills and Ossit Church Furniture. He then worked for over 38 years at General Motors. He volunteered at the Moose Club and Janesville Senior Center. James enjoyed hunting and fishing for the better part of his life. In his younger days, he enjoyed backyard baseball games with his children and neighbors. He enjoyed the times with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren the most. James is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mardelle; two sons, Jim and Mike, of Janesville; grandson, Jamie, of Janesville; great granddaughter, Ava Locast of Janesville; granddaughter, Ann, of Mukwonago; great-grandchildren, Jake and Alison Galinsky; and a sister, Mildred (Norm) Gruenewald. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Vincent and Francis; and a sister, Mary Wyssman. Private family services will be held.
