James Henry David Long

JANESVILLE - James Henry David Long, 63, lost a hard-fought battle with cancer on Saturday morning, June 18, 2011. Jim retired to Janesville, WI, in 2010 after being employed as a librarian, and, subject specialist in language and literature for the Hawaii State Public Library System. He earned his B.A., an M.A. and a Masters in Library Science from the University of Hawaii. While at the University, he studied with poets James Wright, John Logan, W.W. Merwin, Unterecker, Kinnell and others. He is also the author of Between Wings; a collection of poetry spanning 30 years of deeply personal writing. He edited the writings of Rich DiSilvio and other authors. Jim was born on Jan. 26, 1948, to Donovan C. David and Jewell Irene David (both deceased). He is survived by his twin sister, Betty Jo Dickinson of Bakersfield, CA, and other sisters: Mary Hively of Janesville, WI, Linda Harris of South Bend IN, Dorothy Davis of Osceola IN, Eula Schieber of Plymouth IN, and one brother, Donovan Henry (Hank) David of South Bend, IN. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Charles Edward Walls, Terry L. Hanson, and Archie C. David. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at ALL FAITHS FUNERAL HOME, 1618 E. Racine St. Janesville, WI. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Janesville. When nothing whereon to lean remains; When strongholds crumble to dust; When nothing is sure but that God still reigns, That is just the time to trust. 'Tis better to walk by faith than sight. In this path of yours and mine; And the pitch-black night, when there’s no outer light; Is the time for faith to shine.
