MADISON - James Alan Johnston, 85, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 11, 2015. He leaves behind his wife of 57 yrs., Shirley Mae (Matz) Johnston; his son, Jason Johnston; his daughter, Heidi (Derrick) Jennings; his grandchildren, Landy Cardenas Hernandez, Chanelle Jennings and Derrick Jennings Jr.; great-grandchild, Landy Jr.; his brother, Dale (Rosemary) Johnston; his sister, Bobbi Damiani and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Jim was a lover of the arts. He received a degree in Commercial Art at UW-Madison. His business, Aquarius Art, was very successful. He designed the UW football program covers for many seasons, as well as many well-known area logos. He loved wintering in Alamo, Texas with Shirley. Many days you could find him by the pool writing and illustrating his book on Greek mythology. He was an excellent musician, mastering the clarinet and sax. At the age of 50 he got his pilot license and built a Jaguar kit car. The family greatly appreciates all the kind words and sympathy for our great loss. A memorial service will be held at ALL FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 4058 Lien Rd., Madison on Saturday, March 28, 2015 beginning at 1 p.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
