Jack L. Fillner, age 88, of Madison passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025. He was born on April 18, 1936, in Madison, Wisconsin, the son of Leighton and Elizabeth (Frisch) Fillner.
Jack was a proud graduate of Madison East High School and dedicated 38 years of his life working for the City of Madison Water Utility, retiring in 1993. An avid outdoorsman, he loved duck hunting and fishing on the picturesque lakes of Madison, with his boat being his happy place. Jack particularly cherished his fishing trips to Canada with his sons. He was also a knowledgeable expert on the flora and fauna of Wisconsin, always eager to share his insights about local flowers and songbirds. A lifelong Packers and Badgers fan, he found great joy in watching his favorite teams compete. Jack also enjoyed playing euchre, dining at supper clubs, and telling his signature bad jokes - some of which he even wrote himself.
Jack is survived by his son, Daniel Fillner; daughter, Judy Fillner; daughter-in-law, Dawn Fillner; grandchildren, Jack (Natasha) Fillner, Danielle Pacheco, Jessica (Caleb) Beal, Tammy Collins, and Sabrina (Bob) Bunnell; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Benjamin, Evelyn, Samantha, Aiden, Finneas, Lylith, Odin, Logan, Hunter, Kimber and Terry; life-partner, Darlene “Dolly” Torres, and her family, Dolly (Jim) Torres, Jo (Jeff) Hellenbrand, Maria (Todd) Frederick and Emerald, Megan and Marisa. Jack was preceded in death by his son, Terry Fillner; daughter, Sandy Fillner; as well as his parents and siblings.
"A bluebird to remind me even though we are apart, your spirit is always with me; forever in my heart."
