MADISON – Harold R. Berg, passed away peacefully early Sunday evening January 24, 2010, at the Veteran’s hospital in Madison. His loving wife Dolores of 68 years was at his side, along with many family members. Harold was born Feb. 27, 1921 in Appleton, Wis. Harold immensely enjoyed music, participating in the choir and playing the organ many years for church; and a rousing accordion for festive and family gatherings. In later years, he played uplifting songs of faith, love, patriotism and the oldies but goodies like “shavin’ a haircut…to bits” in the nursing homes. Harold served overseas in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was very much involved in service organizations. Harold was a 4th degree Grand Knight (Knights of Columbus), involved in the Catholic Foresters, Lion’s Club, and St. Bernard’s Men’s Assoc. He chaired and participated in committees such as Right to Life, American Family Assoc., Anti-Porn, Commission of Critical Concerns, and Christian Coalition. Harold is survived by his wife Dolores; nine children; 26 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters; five brothers; and many relatives and dear friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2015 Parmenter St., Middleton on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Msgr. Douglas Dushack officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Madison. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
