MADISON Harold M. Ziegenfuss, age 98, formerly of Winona, Minn., died peacefully at Agrace Hospice & Palliative Care in Madison, Wis., on March 16, 2018, with his wife of fifty three years, Elaine, by his side. Harold Zig was born in Winona, Minn., Nov. 30, 1919, to John and Martha Ziegenfuss. He graduated from Cotter High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, including the invasion of Normandy, France. He was a quiet, kind person who enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and biking. Harold had a long successful career as a Linotype Operator with the Winona Daily News. He was known for his expertise in working with and repairing the printing machines. Zig also applied his technical skills as Mr. Fixit outside of work. In addition to his wife Elaine, Harold is survived by his family: stepchildren, Jerilynn (Bob) Kortkamp and Rick Curran (Jodell O Connell); sister, Viola Reiland; daughters-in-law, Dona Geracie Curran and Maureen Curran; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his stepson, Gary Curran; brothers, Elliott (Eleanor) Ziegenfuss and Alvin Ziegenfuss; sisters, Marion Ziegenfuss, Dorothy Ziegenfuss and Lucille Ramey; and brother-in-law, Eddie Reiland. The family extends deep gratitude to all the caregivers at St. Marys Hospital, Oak Park Place and Agrace Hospice & Palliative Care in Madison. A memorial service will be held at ST. PAULS EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 265 Lafayette Street in Winona, Minn., on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or to The Arc-Dane County, 6602 Grand Teton Plaza, Madison, WI 53719.
