MADISON – Grant O. Root, age 86 of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008. He was born April 16, 1922. Following his service in the U.S. Marine Corp. during World War II in the South Pacific, Grant worked as a mechanic, fuel oil and cement truck driver. He was a jack of all trades. He was always willing to help anyone and would give you the shirt off his back. He suffered a debilitating stroke in April ’05, and it was a miracle he lived through it. He was not a complainer and brought many joys and blessing to his family in the last few years. He was a loving husband and father. Grant loved fishing, which he did with his children and grandchildren. Grant is survived by a daughter, Rita (Wesley) Lester of Madison; daughter-in-laws, Cathy Root of Madison and Janet Root of Lakeland, Florida; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Marie A. (Tils) Root; sons Jeffery A. Root and Barton J. Root; grandsons, Roger A. Root and Mike Root. He will be greatly missed by his family. Services will be held at the DON & MARILYN ANDERSON HOSPICECARE CENTER, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center. The family would also like to thank, the staff of Hospice, Meriter Home Health, Cornerstone Covenant Care, Home Instead and Alzheimer's Association for the care and love they provided him through the last few years.
