Gladys B. Nally

Gladys Nally, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 24th, 2024. She was a long-time resident of Janesville, Wisconsin prior to moving closer to her family in Pewaukee, Wisconsin.

Gladys was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Wilfred and Elsie Behrens on June 9th, 1933. She graduated from South Division High School in Milwaukee and joined the U.S. Navy shortly thereafter. While serving her country, she attended the court recording school at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, and was later transferred to the legal department at the Great Lakes, Illinois naval base, where she met her future husband (James Nally).

After getting married, Gladys and Jim crisscrossed the country while raising their five children, eventually settling down in Janesville, Wisconsin, where they lived for over forty years. Gladys was very active with her church (St. Mary’s), local charities, and enjoyed playing volleyball and walking with her friends.

Once retired, Gladys and Jim travelled the world, visiting many countries on several continents. Even after Jim’s passing in 2005, Gladys continued to travel around the world, cruising to Europe, Asia, and South America on her own.

Gladys is survived by four of her five children: Jim (Gina) Nally of Maplewood, MN; Kathy (Patrick) Engesser of Rosemount, MN; Mary (John) Nurse of Pewaukee, WI; and Mike Nally of Germantown, WI. Gladys’ daughter, Linda (Brian) Mikkelson, passed away in 2011. Gladys is also survived by one sister, Lorraine (Vern) Larson of Weslaco, Texas, eight beloved grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30th at ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 307 E. Wall St. in Janesville, WI, followed by a Catholic mass at 10:30 a.m.

The family would like to deeply thank Presbyterian Homes and the staff at Kirkland Crossings in Pewaukee, WI for their care, compassion, and professionalism while Gladys resided there.
