Geraldine G. Mccluskey

June 10, 1939 — February 21, 2024

Geri McCluskey of Janesville, WI passed away peacefully at home on February 21st, 2024 after an extended illness. She was born in Janesville, WI the daughter of Phyllis (Cary) and Leslie Teal, owners of local taverns Springbrook and The Town Tap.

Geri began working at the age of 13. After a brief tenure at General Motors in the 1960s, during which time she rose to lead the secretarial pool, she was recruited to California to work for Hughes Aircraft. After a short time, she realized that her heart lay in Wisconsin, not California and she moved back to Janesville to begin her decades-long career as an entrepreneur.

She founded Key Associates in the 1970s and successfully sold her business to Manpower in the late 1980s. During this time she was also a licensed insurance broker and real estate broker. She attempted many different endeavors after selling her business. Among other things she started: a classifieds newspaper, a restaurant, a landscaping company, a furniture wholesale business and a futon manufacturing operation. After many stops and starts, she realized staffing was her true calling and she returned to that field to found Just-In-Time (JIT) Staffing which she ran successfully until the year before she passed.

When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed tending to her 6 acres of land along the Rock River in Janesville township. She owned the property for over 50 years, developing it over several phases of landscaping and construction. Similar to her commercial endeavors, she never stopped working on her land. She had excavators running on the property six months before passing away. The extensive gardens and the wildlife there will be a testament to a life well-lived that will be enjoyed by her family for decades to come.

She is survived by her children: daughter Kari McCluskey (Jimmy Nuter), son Kyle McCluskey, daughter-in-law Meredith Haynes, and grandsons Henry McCluskey and Desmond McCluskey all of Chicago, IL, as well as her brother, Richard Teal, from Horicon, WI. Her ex-husband, Steve McCluskey from Janesville, was at her side during her illness.
