Gerald F. Wood

June 1, 1921 — January 24, 2007

MADISON – It is said everything must come to an end. We are sorry to say that Gerald F. Wood passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007. He was born in Richland County on June 1, 1921. Gerald graduated from DeForest High School in 1936. He worked at Gisholt Machine Company until he left for service during World War II. He has now joined his comrades of the 438th in the great beyond. Following service, he returned to Gisholt for 38 years. He retired from Oscar Mayers. Gerald enthusiastically supported Badger athletics. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf. Gerald took pleasure in family camping trips, fall foliage drives, and Gays Mills apple country. Playing Bingo was also great entertainment for him. Gerald is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elnora (Svetnicka); his son, Terry; grandchildren, Joaquin (Veronica), Jennifer, Kristi and Erin; great grandson, Deigo; his daughter Kathlyn Cole; grandchildren, Emily and Justin; his sister, Joyce (Raymond) Berdal; and a brother, Norman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Ethel Wood. Per Gerald’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare, Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Pkwy., Madison, WI 53711. He has known the green trees And the skies overhead; And the blossoms of spring And the fragrance they shed. He has known the blue lakes And the woodlands afar; And the song of the pines And the light of a star. And should he pass now He would say with a smile That his pilgrimage here Had been well worth his while. Edgar Guest
