Janesville-Gene Christensen went to be with his Lord on June 17, 2008 at Our House Senior Living Facility. He was born in Harlan, IA and grew up on a farm in NE. The Depression era brought him and his wfie Claretta to the Chicago area for work where he began a life long career as a butcher. He retired as a meat market manager from the Jewel Tea Company in 1972, after which he and wife moved to Missouri and then Arkansas. During WWII he served in the U.S. Navy at the Naval Air Station in Glenview, IL. Gene enjoyed travel, playing golf & baseball, and hunting and fishing. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Centerton, Arkansas and attended Christ Presbyterian Church after moving to Janesville, WI in 2006. Gene was married to Claretta for 60 years 7 months. She preceeded him in death in 2001. He is survived by his sister Helen Johnson of Monterry Park, CA, a half brother Laverne (Nancy) Christensen of McHenry, IL, his four children Karen (Alfred) Bernard of Janesville, WI, Andrew (Barb) Christensen of Lake Villa, IL, Jeanine Johnson of Denver, Colorado, and Nancy (John) Page of Centerton, AR, as well as 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held June 23, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Christ Presbyterian Church Janesville, WI. Internment will be at the VA Cemetery in Fayetteville, AR. He will be missed by family and friends.
