Garth Taylor Peck, Sr.

MADISON Garth Taylor Peck, Sr., 93, of Madison, died at his home surrounded by his children on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 He was born in Dorrance, Kansas on March 11, 1921 to Lester and Myrtle Peck. He was married to Wilma Lee Salley, who made her Heavenly journey 4 years ago. He worked as a soap maker for Proctor & Gamble in Kansas City, KS. As a young husband and father, he joined the Air Force to serve as an assistant to the flight surgeons. He was a World War II veteran and was thrilled to be invited to join other veterans in 2012 and be celebrated in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. In the 1970s, he and Wilma moved to the West Coast where Garth became the Western Regional Manager of Trans World Airlines Credit Union. He retired in 1981. He and Wilma moved to Madison in 1983 to be closer to family. They became members of Lake City Church and enjoyed fellowship there. He was a good man, raised his family to know God and could spin a story like no other. One could say he charmed people with his wit and humor. Family was important and valued. He was always there to help or lend a dollar. His latter days were spent in and out of hospitals and care facilities, but he never lost his determination to be positive, and worried more about others than himself. He is survived by three children, Donna and Warren Heckman of Rancho Mirage, CA, Janet Gibson of Madison and Garth, Jr. and Cyndi Peck of Madison; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by three sisters, a brother and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Garth was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Funeral services will be held at ALL FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 4058 Lien Rd., Madison on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Warren Heckman officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Madison. Visitation will be held at ALL FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service. We all experience loss during the course of our lives, but losing a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend comes with an especially deep wound, one that is slow to heal. We honor you, dad, and in the last hours of your life, there was nothing left to do but love you and we did that.
