MADISON - Eugene Gene Sayre, age 90, peacefully passed from this life to the next on Sunday, March 13, 2016 in Madison, Wis. Known for his wicked sense of humor, keen wit, intellect and love of history, architecture and antiques, Gene graduated Central High School in La Crosse, Wis., in 1943 and worked at Allis Chalmers until 1969 when he moved to Madison. In Madison he worked for Eastex Packaging for many years until retiring in 1987. After arriving in Madison he met his lifelong partner, Jim Freese they spent 46 happy years sharing their lives together. They enjoyed traveling, watching old movies and entertaining visiting family and friends. Gene is survived by his loving partner, Jim; sister, Jeanette Borgen; aunt, Luella May Finley; sister-in-law, Betty Jahn; five nieces and nephews in Arizona and Minnesota; as well as a large extended family. Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Jahn; uncle, Samuel Sayre; and brother, James Jahn. A celebration of Genes life will be held in Madison this summer.
