Ethel E. Harper

December 17, 1939 — December 8, 2022

JANESVILLE - Ethel Ellen Harper, of Janesville, WI, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 8, 2022 surrounded by her children nearby her side.

Ethel was born December 17, 1939, in Eau Claire, WI, to Turon and Ethel (Sisco) Harper. Ethel was widely known by everyone for her nickname “Cookie” given to her by her family when she was a young girl; as she always had her hand in the cookie jar. She loved sewing, crocheting, rummage sale and thrift store shopping. She enjoyed putting puzzles together; more so watching others struggle with putting puzzles together, and then she would finish them out and take the credit. On warm summer days she enjoyed sitting on her front porch watching hummingbirds while her son would mow her lawn. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren and watching them grow. She loved playing cards and board games and always got a good laugh when she sneaked in a surprised win against her opponents. She loved attending services at the Janesville Salvation Army and shared a special relationship with Majors Tom and Julie McDowell.

Ethel is survived by her brother, Jimmie Harper and sisters, Rosena Herrick and Clara Aubart; her five children, Kari (LeRoy) Oliver, Keith (Karen) Moen, Kevin Moen, Kathryn (Louis) Cox, and Kimberly (Melvin) Crawford. She was a proud grandmother to Ronald Oliver, Alan Oliver, Andrew Oliver, Kory Moen, Joshua Cox, Jacob “Cody” Cox, April Vance, Antwain Crawford, and Angela Crawford. She was blessed with 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Turon and Ethel Harper; sisters, Ellen Tompkins and Dorothy Stenseth; brother, Turon Harper; her former husband, Ronald Moen; and her beloved grandson, Alan Oliver.

Ethel was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, and she will be greatly missed by all of us.

Graveside services will be held at Bethel Cemetery, Evansville, WI, at noon on Saturday, April 15, 2023, with a private family luncheon to follow.
