Eric Scott Lahaie

MADISON - Eric Scott Lahaie passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008. Eric was born in Madison, on March 22, 1976 to Ronald and Barbara (Godding) Lahaie. He graduated from Malcom Shabazz High School in 1994, and was accepted and received a full scholarship to the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Though he was a son, brother and friend, Eric was, at his core, an artist. He worked with stone, paint, pen and music. To Eric, art was in the details, and he was, in his attention, able to coax the most elusive buds from seemingly infertile earth. Eric lived his art, not content to create something to hang on a wall. His clothing, mode of transportation, apartment and even his body were all subject to metamorphosis by his vision and by his hand, as though the world around him needed a touch more beauty. Now, at his passing, the world has less. Eric is survived by his sister, Kyla (Brian Quinn) Lahaie and his nephew Kieran Quinn, his maternal grandparents Allen and Martha Godding Sr., Uncles Allen (Cheryl) Godding Jr., Collin (Sharon) Godding, and Bill Lahaie; aunts Terri (Keith)Albrecht and Margret Zolkowski and many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Ronald and Barbara (Godding) Lahaie and paternal grandparents Jack and Phyllis (Ott) Lahaie. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at Mother Fools Coffee House 1101 Williamson St Madison, WI 53703 on Saturday January 3, 2009 at 7 p.m. Eric battled mental illness and drug/alcohol addiction daily . The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Mental Health Center of Dane County Inc. 625 West Washington Avenue, Madison, WI 53703. A person is a success if they get up in the morning and gets to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do. - Bob Dylan
