Elizabeth B. Stern

MADISON - Elizabeth B. Stern, age 60 of Madison, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at her home. She was born Feb. 25, 1948 in Monroe, the daughter of Paul and Margaret (Jufer) Affolter. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1966. Elizabeth later received her bachelor degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1970 in elementary education. In 1971 she married Michael Stern and they moved to Colorado. They had a daughter Samantha. Michael and Elizabeth later divorced and she moved back to Madison with Samantha. Since 2000, Liz worked at the Wisconsin Alumni Association in the International Relations and Travel Program. Liz loved traveling, University of Wisconsin athletics, reading and campus life. She is survived by her mother, Margaret Affolter of Madison; a brother, Andreas (JoAnn) Affolter of Madison; and many friends and co-workers. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Samantha; and her father, Paul Affolter. A memorial service will be held at OLBRICH BOTANICAL GARDENS, 3330 Atwood Ave., on Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. with a time of remembrance beginning at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
