Elizabeth Ann Schuck

MADISON - Elizabeth Ann (Garner) Schuck died at Madison, on April 23, 2012, of natural causes. Elizabeth was born in Chicago, Ill., Sept. 16, 1926, to Laurel Vincent and Winifred A. Garner (Gallagher). She, her brother and father lived with her aunt and uncle, Dr. and Mrs. William DeBoer after the death of her mother. She graduated June 1944, from Oak Park Riverfront Township High School. On Dec. 6, 1945, she married Walter G. Schuck at Fort McCoy, Wis. They farmed at Loganville, Wis., until 1952, when ill health forced Walter to quit farming. Elizabeth worked at several factories in Baraboo and Reedsburg, and restaurants in Sauk City, until 1972 when back surgery forced her to retire from the work force. In 1967 Walter and Elizabeth moved to Blackhawk, Wis., where she was active in many organizations, including Homemakers, 4-H, and volunteering at the Maplewood Nursing Home in Prairie du Sac. Elizabeth was a lifelong knitting and crocheting enthusiast. For a time she operated EASy Knit Studio knitting sweaters, etc. for adults but also clothes for Barbie Dolls. In later years she knit many hats and mittens for Head Start children in Stoughton and Madison. After moving to the Capitol Lakes retirement center she became active at the Madison Senior Center, with RSVP, and the Dane County SOS Senior Council. She is survived by four sons, Howard (Diane) of Madison, Kenneth (Faith) of Stoughton, Warren of Stoughton and Forrest (Sheryl) of Madison; and a daughter, Winifred Massey of Edgerton; five grandchildren, Maureen, Eric, Emilie (Scott) Shoop, Melinda (Ryan) Predmore and Kristin; three great-grandchildren, Mason Schuck, Joseph Shoop and Andrew Shoop; and a brother, William Garner of Austin Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, in 2006. A memorial remembrance will be held in the auditorium at CAPITOL LAKES HEALTH CENTER, 334 W. Doty Street, Madison, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. on Sunday May 6, 2012. Burial will be at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom, Wis. No flowers or plants. Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or any charity of choice.
