MADISON - Dorothy Emma Herlitz, age 78, entered peacefully into eternal life on Friday, August 4, 2006 at the Don & Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center, Fitchburg. She was born August 21, 1927 in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin the daughter of Sanford and Emma (Hartwig) Peterson. Dorothy graduated from Proviso High School in Chicago. She married Don Herlitz in 1955. Dorothy was a hard worker, many times working two and three jobs to support her family. She loved to cook and take care of family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and reading. Dorothy is survived by five children, Barbara Jean Clayton, Madison, Tom (Judy) Clayton, Madison, Deborah Clayton, Winterhaven, Florida, Mary (Larry) Rismeyer, Fitchburg, Don Leslie Herlitz, Jr., Madison; three brothers, Dean (Gwen) Peterson, Brodhead, Raymond (Lola) Peterson, Fort Atkinson, Donald (Marie) Peterson, Fort Atkinson; one sister, Lois (David) Bielfeldt, Fort Atkinson; adored loved ones, Jerry and James Burhans, Judy Rosen, JoAnne Black and William Kraus; adopted grandson, John Kelly Harting; 10 grandchildren, David, Renee, Tom Jr., Christy, Laura, Sari, Shel Rose, Ryan, Lisa, and Mary-Lynn; five great grandchildren, Kjersten, Hayley, Derek, Matthew, and Lexi; and many nieces and newphews. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother and two sisters. Graveside services will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to HospiceCare, Inc.
