Donald R. Simon

CAMBRIDGE - Don Simon, age 65, of Cambridge, died on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, in the UW-Madison Hospital. He was born in Webster Groves, a suburb of St. Louis, Mo., on March 17, 1944, to Raymond and Dorothy Simon. During the Vietnam War, Don served in the U.S. Army overseas as a Lieutenant. Afterwards, he moved to the Chicago area, where he worked as a sales representative for a fabric and upholstery company. On June 23, 1973, Don married Carol. The couple decided to reside in Madison and had one son, Scott. They played mixed doubles tennis until 2007. Don and Carol played chess weekly, enjoyed the outdoors, went camping and canoeing, and loved the Madison Arboretum. Don hunted deer and excelled in fly-fishing. Don switched to selling telecommunications equipment, and founded C Systems. In 2002, Don and Carol moved to Cambridge to open the Covington Manor Bed and Breakfast, which operated until 2008, when Don was diagnosed with leukemia. He died after a year-long battle with this disease. Don is survived by loving wife, son, daughter-in-law and a granddaughter. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at the OAKLAND CAMBRIDGE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
