Donald J. Showers

Showers, Donald J. MADISON - Donald J. Showers, age 65, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at his home. He was born July 19, 1941, in Madison, the son of Irma and Manley Showers, Sr. Donald graduated from Madison West High School in 1959. He then enlisted in the Army National Guard, serving in the 13th Evacuation Unit while beginning his career in retail sales. He married Susan I. Strayer on Sept. 12, 1964, to whom he was married until 1976. He lived in Madison for much of his life before moving to Colorado, where he very much enjoyed snow skiing and hiking through the mountains. He returned to Madison in 1991, to take care of his mother Irma who preceded him in death the next year. Over the years Donald enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, hiking, gardening, and building model cars. He had a great love for his 1957 Chevy and 1968 Corvette for which he was a member of The Corvette Club of Madison and appeared in many parades. Donald will be missed deeply by his family who loved him fully and unconditionally. We wish him peace eternally until our paths may once again meet. Survivors include daughters, Jennifer (Scott) Altenburg and Wendy (fiancee Kevin) Showers all of California; a brother, Manley (Rita) Showers, Sr. of Madison; sister, Muriel Monroe of California; three grandchildren, Aria and Ashtyn Altenburg and Tyler Nevala; and several loving nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held at the ALL FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 4058 Lien Road, Madison on Tuesday, July 25, 2006, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., with a short service beginning at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow next to his parents in Forest Hill Cemetery.
