David Norman Reppen, age 75, passed away on Friday June 21, 2024, in his home in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin on April 10, 1949, the son of Norman and Elaine (Nottestad) Reppen.
David graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1967, going on to graduate from Madison Area Technical College in 1969 with an Associate’s degree in Automotive Mechanics. In 1973, he joined the Wisconsin Army National Guard and in 1976 he began working for the 53rd Aviation Company as Helicopter Crew Chief Mechanic. In 2006, he retired as First Sergeant and Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor in which he maintained superior performance awards throughout his military career. David joined the Sun Prairie Area Community Band in 2017, playing the saxophone where he was a beloved member.
David was a man of many passions; hunting, fishing, mechanics and immersing himself in the great outdoors. In the 90’s he built his log cabin home on 80 acres in Plain, Wisconsin. David married Sharon, in this home in 2011. He created core memories for all of his family in this home, including scavenger hunts and karaoke nights which will never be forgotten. He was affectionately known by his family as “MacGyver” for his mechanical abilities. Above all else, David was a family man who put everyone else before himself.
David was curious; his inquisitiveness drove him to understand the intricacies of almost everything in his life whether it was a gun, car or household machine. David will be remembered as an exceptional cook, especially breakfast casserole and oatmeal waffles, as well as his fervor for life and all its opportunity. He lived life as he wanted; free of regrets and cherished his relationships with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elaine and Norman Reppen.
David is survived by his wife, Sharon Laemmrich; children, Michael (Erin) Laemmrich and Patrick (Trish Scanlon) Laemmrich, and grandchildren Hannah Laemmrich, Malec (Elsie Puzon) Scanlon, Dane Laemmrich and Avery Scanlon. David is survived by his sister Sue (David) Stumpf; nieces and nephews, Naomi Olson, Anna (Paul) Nugent, Matthias (Sayoko Yaji) Olson and Michaiah Olson. David is survived by many friends, cousins, and neighbors; he was a man that once you met him, you loved him.
