MADISON - David Holmes passed away on November 10, 2007 at his home. By his own account, David’s life was hard. He was born on July 15, 1932, and as a young child was taken from his family home. He lived the next 38 years in institutions and longed to be free. The past 25 years of his life were spent the way he chose by traveling all over the U.S, living alone, having good friends and places to meet them daily, throwing parties and visiting his family on holidays. He did not want to leave this earth, but the last months of his life were full of loving care from friends and family. He was a loyal, generous, prickly man and he will be missed. David is survived by his faithful sister Vivian Wallace of Germantown and his niece Mary (Jimmy) Herman of Wisconsin Rapids. In addition to nieces and nephews, other relatives include his brother, Frank Holmes, and sister, Beverly Steeholm. He leaves behind his good friends at the Harmony Bar and Mr. Roberts and his traveling companions Christine, Barbara, Laura and their families. A special thanks to his friends Kathy, Maureen and all of the folks at Neighborhood Connections who made David’s dream a reality for 20 years. A celebration of David’s life will be held on November 24, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. at the GATES OF HEAVEN, 302 E. Gorham St. at James Madison Park, Madison. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Thank you to All Faiths Funeral and Cremation Services for making it easy.
