David B. Hurst

MADISON - David B. Hurst, age 80, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at home from complications of Alzheimer's. David was born in Portage, on Aug. 23, 1931, to William and Mata (Thompson) Hurst, the first of six children. Upon graduation from Waunakee High School, he worked at John Deere Plow Company in Madison. David served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He married his love of 59 years, Beverly Loomis on Feb. 11, 1956, at Eastside English Lutheran Church. David was employed with the Madison Metropolitan School District as a mechanical repairman and retired after 34 years of service. David led an active life with family and friends, hunting, fishing and free time at the "Farm." He will be remembered for lighting up the neighborhood during the holidays. Survivors include his wife, Beverly; sons, Mark and Michael; and three very special daughters, Annie, Cheryl and Debbie; mother-in-law, Emma Loomis; sisters, Wanda, Lois and Jeannie; and brothers, Jack and Fred. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at ST. PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2126 N. Sherman Ave., Madison on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Madison. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
