Daniel Gary James

MARSHALL - Daniel Gary "Boone" or "The Judge" James, age 65 of Marshall, died unexpectedly on Friday, January 1, 2010 at his home. He was born, July 6, 1944 in Ladysmith, the son of Lafie and Nancy (Austin) James. Dan married Ellen Stuntebeck on July 6, 1968 in Marshall. Together they raised their sons in Marshall. He worked for 25 years in the Sun Prairie School District. Dan was the Municipal Judge in Marshall for many years, along with serving on the volunteer fire department, retiring after 25 years, but still very active. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and truly enjoyed his time at the cabin. Dan is survived by his wife, Ellen; sons, Jesse (Sheila) James, of Marshall; David (Denise) James, of Marshall; Clint (Amy) James, of Beaver Dam; five grandchildren, Zachary "Jim", Catherine "K8", Erin "Lindsey Lou", Claire "Claire Bear", and Mason "Mr. Twister"; three brothers, Robert (Ilene) James, of Reedsburg, Douglas James, of LaCrosse, and Michael (Sharon) James, of Pardeeville; five sisters, Joyce Higley, of Sparta, Vivian (Don) Wampole, of Marshall, Debra (Terry) Gorsuch, of Pardeeville, Connie (Don) Cronin, of Madison, and Terri (Mark) Moehrke, of Marshall; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew, Chuck Higley; brother-in-law, Harland Higley; and his faithful dog, Annie. A memorial mass will be held at ST. MARY OF THE NATIVITY, 112 S. Beebe St., Marshall on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Father Ronald Rank officiating. Visitation will be held at ST. MARY OF THE NATIVITY, on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
