Dale Eggers

August 26, 1953 — March 14, 2024

Dale Eggers peacefully went to heaven on Thursday, March 14, 2024, with the comforting love of his wife Maurine. Dale was born in Dubuque, IA, on August 26, 1953. He spent his childhood in Kieler, WI, and graduated from Hazel Green High School in 1971. After high school, Dale went on to attend Southwest Technical College in Fennimore, WI. He graduated in 1972 from the College’s first graduating class for Food Service Management. Dale began a successful career as an executive chef in 1971 at Timbers Supper Club until 2001, at which time, he began working as a chef at Aramark-Alliant Energy Headquarters until retiring in 2018.

Dale was well known for his prowess in the kitchen, especially for his desserts. In 1995, he was recognized as the Wisconsin State Contemporary Pasty Champion. Dale generously shared his cooking talents with his community, family, and friends. His pies, cheesecakes, and cinnamon rolls were especially loved by all who knew him. They say that making food for others is one of the ultimate ways of showing love, and that’s exactly what Dale did best in life – he loved.

On February 4, 2000, at a sunset ceremony on Kaanapali Beach in Maui, Hawaii, Dale married his greatest love, Maurine Strickland. The couple settled in Marshall, WI, and later Janesville, WI. Throughout their married life, they enjoyed many return trips to their special place, Hawaii. Dale often referred to their visits as, “returning to the scene of the crime”. In addition to their Hawaii trips, Dale and Maurine enjoyed traveling to numerous national parks and had spent their last few winters in Orange Beach, Alabama. The couple loved attending live music events and concerts, and they found joy in sharing these special moments with loved ones. As self-proclaimed Parrot Heads, they often sported their parrot and land shark cheesehead hats while singing along at Jimmy Buffett concerts. Dale had a wonderful sense of humor that was always on display. Just to make you laugh, he would wear a salad-tong headband while cooking for family gatherings. Dale and Maurine loved opening up their home to their loved ones, and guests were often gifted one of Dale’s pies or cheesecakes to return home with. Throughout his life, Dale was a faithful fan of his beloved Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee Brewers, and UW sports. If you knew Dale, you knew he was a Badger through and through. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing tennis and in adulthood, he took pleasure in golf.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Maurine Strickland Eggers; mother, Mary Lou Trowbridge; siblings: Doreen (Steve) Loehndorf, Darryl (Tammie Jo) Eggers, David (Colleen) Eggers, and Daniel (Kathleen) Eggers; step-siblings: Kathy (Scott) Harrison and Gary (Peggy) Trowbridge; father-in-law, James Strickland; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Gary) Johnson and Teresa (Curt) Hagenbuch; brother-in-law, James (Rose) Strickland; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Harold Eggers; step-father, Gordon Trowbridge; step-brothers, Steven (Hatsumi) Trowbridge and Michael Trowbridge; and mother-in-law, Janet Strickland.
