Charles W. Weddig

Charles W. Weddig, age 77, passed into eternal life September 17, 2015. Beloved husband of Karen (Zastrow) for 55 years, caring father of Kevin, Kris (Pat) Miller, Janna (Chris) Weinberger, loving Papa of Alexandra, Hannah, Josh, Olivia, Tyler and Emma, dear oldest brother of Gene, Bob (Joy), sister-in-law Patricia, Joel (Susan), Rick and LuAnn (Dave) Paepke, brother-in-law of Fred (Barbara) Zastrow and Paul Zastrow, best buddy of Wally Neumann. Chuck also had many loving nieces, nephews, lots of cousins and a special aunt, Evelyn Jansen. Chuck was preceded in death by parents Fred and Lucille Weddig, brother Frank; parents-in-law Mel and Elaine Zastrow and 26 aunts and uncles. Chuck was very mechanical. He was a Tool and Die Maker for 47 years, had a great love for cars and could fix just about anything. He started the Tri-County Rod & Custom Club in 1958; subsequently he was a member of the Torque Twisters Car Club; he raced dragsters at Great Lakes Dragaway and, later on was the announcer for many drag races there. In 2010 Chuck was inducted into the Great Lakes Dragaway Hall of Fame. For the past 10 years he was the proud owner of a 1959 Ford Galaxie Skyliner retractable hardtop. He enjoyed displaying the car at Waynes Drive-in Cruise Nights, parking it next to his brother Bobs GTO. After getting the 59, Chuck became an active member of C3 (Christs Classic Cruisers), a car enthusiasts club. Chuck also loved the outdoors. He hunted with a close-knit group of friends. He and best buddy Wally Neumann had many great adventures together including hunting and fishing trips and the experience of getting lost in the wilderness of Montana! Chuck was an avid Packer fan and was excited when daughter Kris married an awesome Green Bay native whose family has season tickets to Lambeau Field. Son-in-law Pat Miller became Chucks close friend and a hunting companion as well. Superseding all of those interests was Chucks love for his family and friends. His idea of a perfect evening was cheering for a grandchild, whether that kid was playing a fast-paced game of basketball, performing in a play, or dancing in a ballet. Chuck was a good host, whose door was always open to anyone. He had an easy-going personality, a great sense of humor and a deep faith in his Savior Jesus that he wanted to share with everyone. Chuck had a massive heart attack and sudden cardiac arrest on January 8, 2012. He and his family will be eternally grateful to the staff of Waukesha Memorial Hospital for the wonderful life-saving care Chuck received that day. We are especially thankful to Dr. Paul Seifert, Dr. Imad Katib, N.P. Margie Willett, R.N. Rachel Lochen and N.P. Amanda Ireland. The last six days of Chucks life were spent in beautiful AngelsGrace Hospice where he received loving care from their staff. While there he enjoyed the company of many loving family members and friends, including his wife Karen, daughter Kris, sister LuAnn and special long-time family friend Arlene Kellett. Chuck peacefully made the step from Earth to Heaven where we trust he is once again the strong man he was for so many years. A memorial service will be held at ELMBROOK Church, 777 S. Barker R.
