Charles E. Schimek

June 16, 1933 — February 1, 2024

Charles Schimek, 90, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many, departed this world on Feb 1, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. He was born June 16, 1933, in Easton MN, to John A. and Madeline (Willette) Schimek. He married Catherine J. Buchholz December 28, 1957 in Janesville WI.


Charlie served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked at General Motors from 1956-1986. After retiring, he worked at St Elizabeth’s Home in maintenance. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of AA, an auto enthusiast, mechanic, and a tinkerer. Charlie loved road trips and playing cards.


He and Catherine were snowbirds and wintered in Apache Junction AZ, until 2010, when Catherine passed. Charlie married Donna Lines from Marion IA, on September 8th, 2012; until her passing in 2016.


Charlie is predeceased by his first wife Catherine March 30, 2010; daughter Susan M. (Schimek) Alt January 14, 2014; second wife Donna November 8, 2016; and grandson Jesse C. Scarborough in 2002.


His survivors include his sons: Daniel Schimek (wife Theresa), Florissant CO; and Douglas Schimek, Wallace MI; his daughters: Laureen Scarborough (husband Robert), Janesville WI and Alese Larson (husband Paul), Plymouth MN; 8 grandchildren. Also, siblings: Darrell Schimek, Mary Weber, Charlotte Mair, and Joan Bohrn.


A Catholic Prayer Service will be held on June 15 at 11:00am at All Faiths Funeral Home at 1618 E. Racine St, Janesville, WI 53545. Visitation will be from 10-11am at the Funeral Home. Charlie will be laid to rest with his wife Catherine in Oakhill Cemetery in Janesville, Wisconsin concluding with Military Honors.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Williams Catholic Church, Janesville, Wisconsin. All Faiths Funeral and Cremation Service of Janesville, Wisconsin is assisting the family. Online condolences can be shared at www.866alllfaiths.com.
