Burt Owen Shetler passed away on May 7th, 2016 at his home in Edgerton, WI. Burt is preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Gwendyllen Shetler and his brothers Denny and Rick Shetler. He is survived by his three brothers; George, Dan and Edward (Cathy) Shetler, his sister Gwennie (Terry) Riese; his three sons; Shawn (Satyn), William, Otis (Sarah) Shetler, his daughter, Monica OConnor; his grandchildren; Saphire, Aidan, Devin, Jade and Molly; and his four legged best friend, Gus. Burt was the Master Carpenter. He was mathematically meticulous and crafted the most beautiful pieces of furniture and art out of wood. He used his skills to build houses that became homes. He put his heart and soul into each project and had every right to be proud of his accomplishments as a carpenter. He worked with his brother to build his house, and with his nephew, Alan to remodel his home. The experience of working side by side with Uncle Burt will forever be a cherished memory for his nephews, Alan and Ricky. Burt was faithfully optimistic. When things got tough, he dreamt of the better things the future held for him. With every swing of the hammer he tried to make his dreams come true. He was a spirited person, his laugh was like booming thunder. His smile lit up the room. There was never a dull moment while Burt was around. His intelligence showed with every witty remark he said. The Burtisms will be passed down from generation to generation. Burt found great joy in watching his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews grow. He loved to play basketball with his great nephew, Alan Jr. and has been known to give the best piggy back rides ever. He was extremely proud of the accomplishments his family made. He loved to brag about them to anyone who would listen. He could be the kindest man; he had a heart that was bigger than he was. In honor of Burts spirit, his family is holding a celebration of life ceremony at Riverside Park Sunday, May 15, 2016 at 1 PM. Please join us in sharing stories and remembering the great things about our dad, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend. Food and refreshments will be provided, BYOB.
