Beverly Bliss Shultz

MIDDLETON - Beverly Bliss Shultz passed away Oct. 29, 2014, at Agrace HospiceCare in Madison. Beverly was born June 29, 1940 in Waukesha, to John and Sydney Beaty. She graduated from Marinette High School in 1957 and did her first year of college at the UW Extension in Marinette. She moved to UW-Madison as a sophomore and graduated with a B.A. in English in 1963. Beverly married Fredrick Bliss in 1963 and had three sons, Michael, Allen and Jordan. Beverly, Fred, and their two older sons lived in Nigeria from 1966 until 1968, where Fred worked for the United States AID and Beverly worked as a researcher in child development. Beverly and Fred were divorced in 1975. Beverly earned her Ph.D. in educational psychology in 1974. She married Timothy Shultz in 1983. Their combined family numbered six sons. Beverly and Tim both practiced psychology privately. Together, they established the Psychology Center in 1989 and grew it into one of the largest private therapy groups in the area. Beverly retired from her practice in 2010. In addition to her family, especially her grandchildren, and her work, her life joys were her poodles and her many friends and colleagues. Beverly is survived by her husband, Tim; her sons, Michael Bliss (Gina), Allen Bliss (Kathleen), and Jordan Bliss; her stepsons, Greg Shultz (Robin), Daniel Shultz (Fred) and Gerald Shultz (Cary); her seven very special grandchildren, Michael, Mia, Christian, Elliot, Charles, Catie and Rachel; her sister, Lynn Welch; her former husband, Fred Bliss (Mary); her stepmother, Elizabeth Beaty; her half-brother, John Beaty; her stepsisters, Linda and Donna; and her aunt, Anne Beaty. She is also survived by her dear friends, Judy Borree, Margot Fischer, Donna Morrissey, Ann Topham and many others. Beverly was a gifted and generous person and professional who guided many on their life path and inspired love and loyalty in the many people with whom she came in contact. Her range of interests, her abiding curiosity, her passion for social and political justice and her compassion for those in need were awesome. A great and wonderful soul has left this Earth. She will be missed. Beverlys friends and family deeply appreciate the loving care provided by Agrace HospiceCare. A memorial service will held at a later date.
