Betty Lou Delapp

MADISON Betty L. DeLapp, age 67, passed away at home surrounded by her husband and two sons on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Baraboo on July 12, 1946, the daughter of Pete and Vicki Emery. Following graduation from Mauston High School, Betty graduated from UW-La Crosse, class of 1969, with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Betty married Michael DeLapp in 1966 and together they had two sons, Chris and Brian. She taught elementary education in the Madison School District from 1970 to 1976. Following the birth of their second son, Betty decided to stay home and take care of her family. Later she would return to work for several area property management companies, retiring in 2005. She was known in the Elvehjem Neighborhood for fighting and defeating the proposed Vondron/Debeck Land Fill. After she retired, Betty volunteered at Oak Park Assisted Living Center and was a full-time grandma. She was so proud of her boys and grandchildren. Betty is survived by her husband, Mike; sons, Chris (Jennifer) of Pardeeville and Brian (Tonya) of DeForest; four grandchildren, Katie, Josie, Kayla and Brice; sisters, Sharon (Gene) Halverson of New Lisbon, Helen Emery of Mukwonago, Sally Strand of Florida and Jo (John) Howard of Waunakee; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary. Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society. The family would like to thank the staff of Agrace HospiceCare, for allowing Betty to pass away peacefully at home with her husband and boys by her side.
