Bette Jean Smith, 80, of Janesville, passed away on April 15, 2023 at Willowick Assisted Living in Beloit. She was born on July 8, 1942, to Raymond G. and Evelyn (Wolcott) Smith in Janesville, Wisconsin.
Bette Jean was a homemaker who had a very artistic and creative side. She liked to sing solos and participated in choirs. She wrote short stories and poetry. Bette Jean drew and painted designs for greeting cards, books and canvas. She was a former member of the Janesville Writer's Club and the Choral Union.
Bette Jean is survived by her daughter, Tracy Freeman; her grandchildren, Amanda (Nate) Elmer and Christopher (Kristin) Laukant; and her great-grandchildren, Wesley and Milo Elmer. She is predeceased by her parents and her sister, Arlene Messerschmidt.
A Celebration of Bette Jean’s life will be on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 11:00 am, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Janesville, Wisconsin. All Faiths Funeral and Cremation Services of Janesville is assisting the family.
