MADISON- Barbara Joan Seif passed away Monday, July 31, 2017, at Waunakee Manor. Barbara was born on June 4, 1930, to Leonard and Mamie Seif in Cincinnati, Ohio, and lived there until her family moved to Plainfield, N.J., in 1946. After graduation from high school Barbara attended Wheelock College in Boston, Mass., where she received her bachelors degree. She received her masters degree in Library Science at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Barbara began her career teaching first and second grade in Grand Rapids, Mich., and Milwaukee. She then returned to Madison where she served as the Media Library Director at Lapham, Lindbergh and Midvale elementary schools for the remainder of her career. Barbara loved the symphony, theater, playing the piano and reading. She also enjoyed foreign travel and playing bridge with her wonderful friends. Barbara was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Madison for many years and was involved in volunteer work at the church while also supporting numerous outside charities. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Mamie Seif, and her only sibling, Robert Seif. Barbara is survived by her lifelong friend and sister-in-law, Martha Seif; nieces, Shireen Moore, Renee King, Jeanette VonKrosigk and Denise Seif; grandnieces, Kari VonKrosigk, Taylor Moore, Alana Moore and Hanna Laible-Seif; and grandnephew, Shane VonKrosigk. A celebration of Barbaras life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at the FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 203 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, Wis. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Galion, Ohio. Barbaras family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Waunakee Manor and Agrace HospiceCare for the compassionate and expert care Barbara received. In lieu of flowers, donations may be gifted to Agrace HospiceCare, the First United Methodist Church of Madison, or the Madison Symphony Orchestra.
