Janesville-Arthur R. Schauer, age 89, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Mercy Hospital. He was born in Janesville on September 21, 1918, the son of Arthur and Cora (Lueder) Schauer. After graduation from Janesville High School, he served in WWII in the Army medical corps, in Germany. Upon return he worked as a typesetter for the Denver Post, and the unionized Janesville Gazette. Thereafter he worked for and retired from General Motors in 1980. In 1953, he met and married his soul mate, Mabel Banker and spent many happy years together, living along the shores of the Rock River near Newville. He is survived by a sister, Dorothy Schauer; step daughter Lorraine (Wayne) Mathews and their four children, and grandchildren; nephew Phillip (Jayne) Schauer, and their children Caleb and Hannah; a sister-in-law Helen Schauer; special friends Shirley Wilson and Harold (Jackie) Mades. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a brother Victor Schauer. Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Monday, January 7, 2008 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 210 S. Ringold St. Janesville. Burial will follow at Oakhill Cemetery.Visitation will be from noon until time of service at the church on Monday. In lieu of other forms of expression, donations can be made to Camp Restore (hurricane relief project)c/o of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
