Arthur J Finkel

June 12, 1913 — August 31, 2006

MIDDLETON/KEWANEE, ILL. – Arthur L. “Art” Finkel age 93 of Middleton and formerly of Kewanee, Ill., passed away Thursday, August 31, 2006 at Don & Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. He was born June 12, 1913 in Lynchburg, Virginia, the son of Jacob and Rachel (Schewel) Finkel. Art received his Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Tech and his Masters from the University of Illinois. In World War II, Art served in the U.S. Army for 3 ½ years, 30 months of which was in the European Theatre of Operations. He was stationed in Northern Ireland, England, France and, for the last 6 months, with the Army of Occupation in Wiesbaden, Germany. Art married Faye Siegman in 1950. For the next 30 years, he and his wife Faye operated Siegman Furniture Company in downtown Kewanee, a business founded by his father-in-law in 1922. Art was a member of Congregation of Anshai Emeth, Peoria, Friends of the Library, Kewanee and a member of Midland Country Club. He is survived by one son, Jack (Sandra) Finkel, of Fitchburg, Wis.; two grandchildren, Mallory and Martin Finkel; and two step-grandchildren, Lynn (Tyler) Blackbourn and Katie Christy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye; a brother, Milton; and a sister, Blu. At his request, no services will be held. Memorials may be made to Friends of the Kewanee Public Library, Abilities Plus, or a charity of ones choice.
