MADISON - Arthur H. Hartwig, age 82, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, after long illness due to blood disorder and head injury. Art was born and raised in Milwaukee area. Art attended Wauwatosa High School playing the sports he loved, football, golf and running. After high school he attended the Naval Academy, where he rowed for Navy. Art left the Navy Academy to get his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Wisconsin, Madison in Engineering and Urban Planning and Development. He spent a short time in the food industry before pursuing banking and medical office development. Art started the first financing for mobile homes in the country back in the 80s. Art loved sports, especially his Green Bay Packers, golf, tennis and many vacations were around major golf tournaments with Nan. Art is survived by his partner, Nan Cederholm, and his cats, Dora and Cookie: daughters, Melinda (Jeff) Jeruss and Lisa (Lee) Bendekgey; son, Erich; grandchildren, Freddy, Harry and Rose; sister-in-law, Judy; niece, Sara; nephew, Daniel (Rose); grandniece, Renee; and Nans family. Art was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Frieda, and a brother, Bill. Nan would like to thank Dr. Rob Olson and staff; Dr. Elliot Williams and oncology staff; Dr. Halibi; Dr Vanness; and neurosurgery and ER teams at the UW Hospital; Agrace HospiceCare staff, especially Reni, Tracy, Steve, Katie, Joanne, Sharon, Dan, Jim and Kevin; Capitol Lakes staff; Michelle with Care Wisconsin; Madison Fire Dept.; CVS Pharmacy; Independent Health Care; and Amanda, his caregiver from Right at Home. Without their support, Art could not have been at home in his last days. There will be a memorial in the spring on Green Lake where Arts ashes will be scattered near the two places he loved the most, the golf course and the lake.
