Al Mohaupt, age 91, died on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born on Feb 10, 1915 in Milwaukee, the son of Fred and Louise Mohaupt. Al was an avid hunter and outdoorsman as well as a woodworker and gardener. A friend to many and a generous neighbor. He attended Washington H.S. in Milwaukee and the UW in Madison, graduating in 1936 as a Chemical Engineer. After graduation, he worked in Milwaukee for a brief period, after which he retuned to Madison to work at Forest Products Laboratories for 31 yrs. prior to retiring in 1973. Having also served in the US Navy on active duty for 3 yrs. during WWII, Al went on to retire from the Navy as a Lt. Commander after 21 yrs. in the Naval Reserves. Al is survived by his wife of 65+ yrs., Ruth Steitz Mohaupt of Milwaukee, his daughters Karen Watters and her husband Les of Drummond, WI and Jill Duckman and her husband Ken of Madison, and his granddaughter Jesse Col Duckman. A brief memorial service will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens, 7302 Mineral Point Rd., Madison, on Monday, Sept. 11, 2006 at 10:30 am. The family suggests memorials in Al's name be made to HospiceCare of Fitchburg.
