Alex James Brouillard

LODI, WIS. - Alex died of a heroin overdose on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. The way Alex died does not define who he was. He was a loving, sensitive, caring young man who dreamed of becoming a father. He loved the outdoors, loved welding, loved farming, loved coon hunting, loved running hounds, especially attending Trigg fox hound field trials and loved spending time up north at the family farm near Ogema, Wis. He loved spending time with his Gorski, Brouillard and Peck cousins, aunts and uncles. Alex made friends easily and was teased about his gift of gab (his ability to talk to anyone about anything) which he inherited from his father. We could depend on Alex to make us laugh and more than once, he made us cry. Alex was frequently called upon at family gatherings to lead us in prayer and he had a gift for knowing just what to say and how to say it when he prayed. Alex is survived by his mother and 2nd dad, Carla and Pete Peck, Lodi, Wis.; his father, Jim Brouillard, Lone Rock, Wis.; his sisters, Gina (Ben Lange) Brouillard, Catawba, Wis., and Amanda (Jeremy) Kumbier, Oshkosh, Wis.; special nephew, Miles Kumbier; fiance, Lindsey Hewitt, Dane, Wis.; grandmother, Ruth Ann Gorski, Sherwood, Wis.; grandmother, Carol Peck, Marshall, Wis.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Dixie, his goofy dog, was a source of great comfort to Alex. Welcoming Alex to his heavenly home are his step-brother, Jason Peck; Grandpa Clarence Gorski; Grandpa and Grandma Bob and Carol Brouillard; Grandpa David Peck; very special Uncle Bob Grimes; and his great grandparents. Loving someone addicted to heroin was unchartered territory for us. We could not have made this journey without the support and guidance of some very special individuals. Dr. John McAuliffe, Sauk Prairie Health Care and Prairie Clinic, taught us the importance of compassion and staying connected; Julie B., Alexs parole officer, taught us to never give up; and Michele H. showed us how to help others in need. From Alexs cousins, aunts, uncles and close friends, including Chloe and Angelica, we witnessed the beautiful gift of unconditional love. Lindsey, friends, neighbors, family members and Alexs employers showed us how to give someone more chances than they deserve. We are better people because of these experiences. Alex was born at Sauk Prairie Hospital and throughout his addiction he gravitated to Sauk Prairie Healthcare in his times of need. The physicians, nurses and others who cared for Alex over the years respected him and cared for him with compassion and without judgement. For this reason, we suggest memorials to Sauk Prairie Healthcare Foundation in his memory. A private family service will be held with a celebration of life to be scheduled during the summer of 2018.
