Adrian L. Crane

June 6, 1948 — December 16, 2006

SUN PRAIRIE - “Live your life to the fullest.” That was the advice Adrian gave to his nephew a few days before Adrian died at home on December 16, 2006, with Darlene, the woman who was his best friend, his wife and his joy, at his side. Adrian lived his own advice, packing more into his 58 years than most people I know pack into 100. While embracing life and the challenges Crohn’s disease brought with it, Adrian showed us how to laugh and live with delight in today and hope for the future. I think Adrian would be delighted to know that the gifts he gave us went far beyond the birdhouses, fishing lures and blankets he made or the books he recommended. Through his love, courage and personal strength, Adrian gave us life examples of how to be a person of wonder. Adrian served in the army during the Viet Nam era, was employed as a printer by Speed Queen in Ripon for over 20 years and loved the outdoors, whether it was hiking with Darlene or hunting with family and friends. Adrian is survived by his wife of nearly 20 years, Darlene; his mother, Clara Crane Bryant; two brothers, Gilbert Crane and Bliss (Maureen) Crane; three sisters, Audrey (Dick) Knopp, Barbara (Dave) Lovett, Pat (Dennis) Reetz; a special aunt, Ardell (Rex) Albers; three sister-in-laws, Maryann (Chuck) Klimas, Nancy Toth, Betty (Tim) Benedict; two uncles; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, godchildren and hundreds of friends. Adrian was preceded in death by his father, Bliss Crane; his brother, Dean; and his stepfather, Rollo Bryant. A Celebration of Life will be held at Olbrich Gardens in Madison on December 27, 2006, from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be given in Adrian’s name to charities that were important to him. Adrian wanted to thank Dr. Dan Mulkerin from the U.W. Comprehensive Cancer Center for his caring and ability to listen, and also to the entire staff for their kind support. Although we will miss your physical presence in our lives, Adrian, you will always live on in our hearts.
